PIM system for Franz Mensch

Franz Mensch Shopware Pimcore

Central product data in one system thanks to PIM system Pimcore

Hygiene, cleaning and occupational safety directly from the manufacturer. For 45 years. That is the mission statement of Franz Mensch from Buchloe in the Allgäu region. The family business produces and trades worldwide in disposables, hygiene clothing and occupational safety products.

The company has been active in e-commerce for many years with a B2B online store. As part of a relaunch, the store system was now changed from OXID eShop to Shopware. In addition, Franz Mensch wanted to introduce a PIM system for managing product data. In this way, the company would like to simplify the maintenance of data and standardize the processes for creating article data. Likewise, the PIM should automatically generate and provide important documents such as technical data sheets and standards.

After an intensive selection phase, Franz Mensch decided on Pimcore and the Shopware PIM interface from scope01. For this purpose, the internet agency from Frankfurt am Main customized the PIM system Pimcore according to the company’s requirements as part of the project.

Procedure in the PIM project for Franz Mensch

For the introduction of the PIM system at Franz Mensch, scope01 first conducted a kick-off workshop. In this workshop, the extensive tasks in particular were divided into sub-projects. The first challenge was the definition of the data model with the different derivations. In addition to the classic master data, many specific fields for the online store, packaging and other marketing channels also play an important role.

After defining the data model for the PIM system, additional information was added for each data field. This included, for example, field types, length limits or control functions after import. After completing the integration of all fields into the PIM system, scope01 implemented the so-called custom layouts for the different authorization roles. Thus, for each department of Franz Mensch, a defined view of a part of the product data was integrated and displayed in a structured manner in logical sequences. In this way, employees only see the fields in the PIM that they need to process the product data according to their role.

The initial import of the product and variant data was done via several csv files in Pimcore. For this purpose, scope01 developed an importer, which, in addition to the pure import, prepares data from the ERP system or replaces values.

In addition, scope01 has implemented a second data export in addition to the export to the online store. Thus, the necessary master data of a product is derived as a PDF in the form of a technical data sheet. These PDF documents are also available in the new online store in German and English. Further exports are planned for the near future.

The online store based on Shopware was implemented in-house at the company. Due to its experience as a Shopware partner, scope01 provided consulting support for this implementation and took over some subtasks in the e-commerce project.
