The Bonsai online store based on Shopware

Bonsai.de is the bonsai online store for lovers of Japanese garden art, offering a wide selection of trees and accessories. Bonsai-Zentrum Münsterland, the operator of the online store, has been active in e-commerce for several years and has established a leading position in the market for everything to do with Japanese trees. In 2023, the company decided to switch from osCommerce to Shopware and relaunch the bonsai online store. As the project was faltering in its implementation by freelancers, the Bonsai Center decided to commission scope01 with the completion and further development of the online store.

Professionalization

In the initial setup phase, the project was set up locally at scope01. In the course of this, scope01 also moved the server from 1&1 to Profihost. In our opinion, this provider offers better conditions for the operation of a successful online store.

The implementation of the layout, which had already begun, was completed by scope01. In this context, our designer Felix Weihnacht also initiated minor visual improvements to the Bonsai online store. At the same time, functional deficiencies in the previous implementation were rectified by scope01.

Automation

Bonsai trees are usually unique. Therefore, the products would have to be created individually in Shopware, which involves a great deal of maintenance work for the store operator. To minimize this effort, scope01 has developed an interface that allows the operator to import products in a batch process and then automatically create them in Shopware. This means that the customer is always offered the latest individual items in the bonsai online store.

Interfaces & further development

One of the most important innovations is the use of Pickware as an ERP system, which ensures efficient inventory and warehouse management.

Brevo is used as email marketing software for targeted customer communication. This integration allows direct contact with newsletters and promotions and noticeably improves customer loyalty. The accounting department also benefits from the new structure: thanks to bank reconciliation with Datev, financial processes run smoothly and save time.

Particular attention has been paid to the internationalization of the store. Bonsai.de is now available in six languages (German, English, Spanish, French, Italian and Dutch) and thus addresses customers in many countries. An additional plus point are the integrated courses that introduce bonsai beginners and experienced enthusiasts to the art of care and design.

The modernization of bonsai.de shows how well thought-out technical solutions and a sound e-commerce strategy can make a store future-proof and customer-oriented. Thanks to the professional implementation by scope01, the bonsai online store is ready for further growth and offers bonsai fans an outstanding shopping experience.
