Centralized product data in one system thanks to the Pimcore PIM system
Hygiene, cleaning and occupational safety directly from the manufacturer. For 45 years. That has been the motto of Franz Mensch from Buchloe in the Allgäu region. The family business produces and trades worldwide in disposables, hygiene clothing and occupational safety products.
The company has been active in e-commerce for many years with a B2B online store. As part of a relaunch, the store system has now been switched from OXID eShop to Shopware. Franz Mensch also wanted to introduce a PIM system to manage its product data. The company wanted to simplify data maintenance and standardize the processes involved in creating product data. The PIM should also automatically generate and provide important documents such as technical data sheets and standards.
After an intensive selection phase, Franz Mensch opted for Pimcore and the Shopware PIM interface from scope01. As part of the project, the internet agency from Frankfurt am Main customized the PIM system Pimcore according to the company’s requirements.
Procedure in the PIM project for Franz Mensch
For the introduction of the PIM system at Franz Mensch, scope01 first held a kick-off workshop. In this workshop, the extensive tasks in particular were divided into sub-projects. The first challenge was to define the data model with the various derivations. In addition to the classic master data, many specific fields for the online store, packaging and other marketing channels also play an important role.
After defining the data model for the PIM system, further information was added for each data field. This included, for example, field types, length limits or control functions after import. Once all the fields had been integrated into the PIM system, scope01 implemented the custom layouts for the various authorization roles. A defined view of a part of the product data was integrated for each department of Franz Mensch and displayed in a structured logical process. This means that employees only see the fields in the PIM that they need to process the product data according to their role.
The initial import of the product and variant data took place via several csv files in Pimcore. For this purpose, scope01 developed an importer which, in addition to the pure import, prepares data from the ERP system or replaces values.
In addition to transferring data to the online store, scope01 has also implemented a second transfer. The necessary master data for a product is transferred in the form of a technical data sheet as a PDF. These PDF documents are also available in the new online store in German and English. Further exports are planned for the near future.
The online store based on Shopware was implemented in-house at the company. Due to its experience as a Shopware partner, scope01 supported this implementation in an advisory capacity and took on some subtasks in the e-commerce project.
