Frankfurt-Live

Frankfurt Live is a regional news portal that publishes daily reports from Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region. In order to meet the increasing demands on usability, performance and editorial efficiency, the platform was rebuilt with the open source CMS Sulu. The articles from the old CONTENIDO content management system have already been migrated to the new CMS Sulu.

SITUATION

Frankfurt-Live has been a regional news portal for many years and publishes daily news from Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region. The previous website was based on the CMS CONTENIDO, which was technically outdated.

The aim was to completely modernize the platform technically, replace the old system entirely and transfer the extensive editorial content without losing any data. At the same time, content creation should continue to be simple and uncomplicated for editors so that they can work efficiently and error-free.

OUR SOLUTION

scope01 relies on the Symfony-based CMS Sulu for Frankfurt-Live, which is characterized by flexibility, modern technology and an intuitive backend. In close coordination with the customer, content was successfully migrated from the old system, a completely new information structure was created and a responsive design was developed. Editorial processes were optimized through individually adapted input masks and automated archiving functions.

KEY FEATURES OF THE NEW NEWS PLATFORM
  • Individual input mask for editors: Reduced editing effort through targeted simplification of the user interface

  • Automatic archiving: posts are automatically moved to the archive after a defined period of time

  • Modular structure: Flexible handling of different content types such as news, events or media

  • Improved navigation & search: quick orientation and findability for readers

  • Responsive design: Optimal display on all end devices

IMPLEMENTATION

The project was implemented in several steps, with each step being tailored to the specific requirements of Frankfurt-Live:

  1. Comprehensive concept and design development: At the beginning of the project, a new content and visual concept for Frankfurt Live was developed together with the client. The goal was a modern, mobile-optimized interface with clear user guidance and optimal readability on all end devices.

  2. System change and data migration: The existing website was based on the outdated CMS Contenido and was completely converted to the modern Symfony-based CMS Sulu. This involved a structured and loss-free migration of all content, including articles, media, categories and metadata. The old system ran in parallel until it went live to ensure a clean data transfer.

  3. Optimization of editorial processes: A customized input mask was developed for the editorial team, which greatly simplifies content maintenance. In addition, an automatic archiving function was implemented, which allows older posts to be moved after a set period of time without manual intervention.

  4. Frontend development and responsive design: Based on the new concept, a fully responsive frontend was developed that is equally performant and user-friendly on smartphones, tablets and desktops.

  5. SEO and performance measures: Introduction of a clean URL structure, server-side redirects from the old system, image optimization and server-side caching to increase performance.

  6. Hosting, operation and support: Establishment of a stable hosting environment including a staging system, regular updates and ongoing technical support by scope01.

Conclusion

With the relaunch based on Sulu, Frankfurt Live was technically and editorially future-proofed. Editorial work processes were significantly simplified, content was reorganized in a structured way and the platform is now optimally usable for readers on the move as well as editorially. The comprehensive migration from Contenido ensured that the editorial history was fully preserved – embedded in a modern CMS environment.
